In autumn 2023, the Montgomery County Lynching Memorial Project (MoCoLMP) will install a historical marker to memorialize Mr. George Peck, who was lynched in Poolesville in 1880. The first marker to recognize a lynching in our county, it will be formally unveiled in a public ceremony near the site of the lynching.

MoCoLMP is excited to be supported by our partner, the Maryland Lynching Memorial Project (MLMP), which is helping us raise the funds necessary to fabricate, ship, and install the George Peck marker. Through MLMP’s financial and moral support, along with that of our members and friends, we are confident we’ll meet our initial goal of $5,000. We also plan to raise additional funds to create a space for reflection and reconciliation.

MoCoLMP depends on the support of our community and we know that many of you will contribute to this important work. No gift is too small! Please donate to the George Peck marker fund and join us this autumn for its dedication.

Thank you for your support and generosity.
